Part-Time HR Consultant
About the role
The Part-Time HR Consultant supports the HR function of a NYC-based restaurant group, focusing on compliance, payroll support, and employee relations. This role works approximately 8-10 hours per week, partnering closely with leadership to ensure HR practices align with New York labor laws and hospitality industry standards.
Responsibilities
- Supports day-to-day HR operations, including payroll support, tip credit systems, and compliance with wage and hour regulations specific to the restaurant industry.
- Maintains compliance with New York State labor laws, including wage theft prevention, tip pooling, predictive scheduling, and mandatory sexual harassment training.
- Manages I-9 verifications, meal credit declarations, and employment separation notices.
- Handles employee relations matters, including addressing concerns and managing disciplinary actions and warnings.
- Ensures adherence to NYS Workers' Compensation, disability, OSHA/DOHMH regulations, and employee benefits (e.g., 401k, healthcare).
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 5+ years of HR experience, ideally within the restaurant or hospitality industry.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish required.
- Expert-level knowledge of New York labor laws, including wage theft prevention, tip pooling, predictive scheduling, and mandatory sexual harassment training.
- Hands-on experience supporting payroll processes, tip credit systems, and hospitality wage orders.
- Strong knowledge of NYS Workers' Compensation, disability, OSHA/DOHMH regulations, and employee benefits (e.g., 401k, healthcare).
- Proven ability to handle employee relations matters, including addressing concerns and managing disciplinary actions and warnings.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and compliance.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a part-time capacity.
- Comfortable working remotely with occasional onsite meetings as needed.
