Part-Time & Full-Time EMTs

Carbon County Ambulance Service – Full-Time Emergency Medical Technician position.

About the role

Responds to 911 emergency medical situations throughout the Carbon County Ambulance service area, as well as interfacility transports when called upon by the hospital. Assists with second calls as needed. Responsible for equipment, quality assurance with medical control, disaster preparedness, field operations, and compliance with applicable state rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Respond to medical calls and evaluate emergency situations to determine the most effective medical care.
• Perform a variety of medical and rescue procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Conducting medical and trauma assessments.
  • Establishing and maintaining adequate airways.
  • Controlling bleeding and splinting broken bones.
  • Administering medications.
  • Extricating patients.
• Provide effective communication with patients, medical control, dispatch, and other emergency service agencies.
• Attend specialized classes and training to maintain and expand skills and certifications.
• Provide training to the public and other emergency responders.
• Perform interfacility transports when called upon by the hospital.
• Perform other duties and functions as requested or required.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen and at least 18 years of age.
• Valid Utah Driver’s License with no more than two moving violations in the past two years; no DUI, drug, alcohol, or alcohol-related reckless citations, or driver’s license revocations or suspensions.
• Must be willing to undergo a thorough background screening and drug test.
• Must possess a current EMT Certification (EMT-B, I, IA, P); additional certifications in related EMS fields are a plus.
• Working knowledge of State Bureau of EMS, EMT-B, I, IA, P standards and protocols is desired.

Skills

• Must be able to clearly speak, read, and write in English; ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish is desired.
• Basic math skills; if certified above an EMT-B level, must be able to accurately perform drug calculations for dosages and IV drip rates.
• Must be able to operate an emergency vehicle (ambulance).
• Basic computer skills are desired.

Physical, Mental, & Environmental Demands

• Must be physically able to lift a minimum of 75 pounds, bend, stoop, twist, turn, and climb into and out of emergency vehicles in various accident or emergency environments.
• Must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly when talking.
• Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
• Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare, inspect, and operate machinery.
• Able to deal with difficult concepts and complex variables.
• Must be willing to work odd hours, including daytime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must be willing to work in unfavorable conditions such as snow and rainstorms, excessive heat, cold, and windy conditions.

Pay

• Starting Wage: $20.05/hr – $22.34/hr
• Post-Probation Wage: $21.10/hr – $24.94/hr

Schedule

• Full-time, hourly employees must work a minimum of 40 hours per week (two 12-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts).
• Must assist with transports on weekends or in a "second one out" status.
• Must not miss more than 2 Mega Code trainings per year.
• Probationary Period: 6 months.
