Part-Time Founder in Residence
About the role
IU Innovates advances student entrepreneurs from any campus, school, or major. Launched in Fall 2023, IU Innovates is a university-wide initiative to advance Indiana University entrepreneurs through startup incubation hubs, sponsorship of entrepreneurship resources, and impact storytelling. Core to IU's strategic plan 2030 pillars of student success, transformative research and creativity, and service to the state and beyond, IU Innovates ensures entrepreneurs know where to start and can continually access the right resource at the right time. As a key part of the IU entrepreneurship community, Founders in Residence expand the capacity of the IU Innovates team. The objective is to create a collaborative and supportive environment by leveraging the founder's experience as a near-peer mentor for IU entrepreneurs. Time commitment and specific responsibilities will be tailored to each individual's capacity and skill set. A person in this role would have access to IU Innovates' space, resources, and network, and would play a crucial role in shaping the entrepreneurial ecosystem at Indiana University.
Responsibilities
- Addresses the needs of IU entrepreneurs
- Schedules and facilitates weekly meeting for a group of student entrepreneurs
- Helps entrepreneurs clarify their needs, define blockers, and articulate MicroAsks
- Proposes resources to address common issues
- Tracks Needs and Milestones
- Records and track common questions, problems, and blockers in a central document
- Meets 1 on 1 with student founders
- Conducts workshops or collaborative work-along sessions
- Hosts lunches, hackathons, and other events to foster community and connections among founders
- Available at the Von Lee building "front of the house" for spontaneous questions and requests
- Point person for new student entrepreneurs
- Responds to community members' questions in Slack
- Reviews and offers guidance on executive summaries, pitches, customer interviews, grant proposals, marketing collateral, business plans, etc.
- Offers specialized advice in areas of personal expertise
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required
- Some experience as an Entrepreneur required
- Familiarity with student entrepreneur incubation programs preferred

- Strong mentoring and leadership skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Passion for entrepreneurship and supporting emerging founders
Pay
- $20.00 - $27.00 an hour based on experience and qualifications
Schedule
- 10-25 hours per week, depending on the specifics of the role, on a flexible schedule
