About This Position

The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for supervising inmate labor and team members in a correctional facility’s food service operation. This role involves preparing and serving food, adhering to food handling regulations, and maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment. Our ideal candidate is passionate about food and service, understands food handling regulations, and thrives in a team-oriented yet independent setting.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise inmate labor and/or team members during food prep and service shifts.
  • Prepare, assist, or instruct in the preparation of quality foods according to menus, recipes, and work instructions.
  • Ensure proper food storage and sanitation.
  • Serve food during meal schedules according to department policies.
  • Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment to cook, prepare, and serve food.
  • Follow all food safety regulations for sanitation, handling, and storage.
  • Train other food service workers.
  • Maintain a clean work area, including refrigerators, freezers, cooking equipment, and serving equipment.
  • Follow facility uniform policy and ensure kitchen cleanliness (sweeping, mopping, dishwashing).
  • Monitor proper portions and utensils for service.
  • Promote a healthy and safe work environment for employees and inmates.
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior institutional food service or restaurant experience is preferred.
