Scouting America: Sam Houston Area Council serves approximately 27,000 youth across 16 southeast Texas counties through the support of about 9,000 dedicated adult volunteers. The council is funded by individuals and organizations who believe in Scouting’s mission to build lifelong values, service, and achievement. Programs and year-round outdoor activities emphasize strong beliefs, good decision-making, and high ideals rooted in the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Youth learn practical skills such as first aid, swimming, canoeing, backpacking, and camping, along with a deep respect for the outdoors. The council’s service area includes counties throughout Southeast Texas, including Harris County and the greater Houston region.

About the role

The Food Service Specialist assists with meal preparation, service, and cleanup to support camp programs and weekend events. This role helps ensure campers and guests receive safe, timely, and high-quality meals in a clean and welcoming dining environment. Ideal for team players who enjoy a fast-paced environment and supporting camp meal service experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with food preparation and meal service.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas.
  • Following food safety and health guidelines.
  • Assisting with dishwashing and kitchen organization.
  • Supporting special events and weekend camp operations as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be willing to accept and meet Scouting America's membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
  • 18 years of age or older unless prohibited by any applicable law.
  • Must possess a current Certified Food Manager (CFM) certificate recognized by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or obtain certification within a specified period of employment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, as needed, including evening activities and weekends.
  • Strong communication skills and must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences.
  • Must exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills characterized by enthusiasm, punctuality, responsibility, and creativity.
  • Employment is subject to criminal, reference, and motor vehicle background checks.

Prior food service experience is helpful but not required. Training and certifications may be provided upon hire date.

Pay

$12-$15/hour

Schedule

Weekend-based | Up to 25 hours per week
