Department: Parks and Recreation – Part-time (18 hrs per week)
About the role
Under the direct supervision of the FitCity Center Facilities Maintenance Leadworker, this position performs a variety of general maintenance work at the FitCity Center to ensure a clean and safe facility.
Responsibilities
- Pressure wash various surfaces, clean carpets, and operate lifts and other equipment
- Clean swimming pool filters and strainers
- Perform daily trade work related to maintenance and repair of City buildings and facilities
- Assist in setup and breakdown of events, including tables, chairs, decorations, and garbage removal
- Perform basic repairs and adjustments to equipment with minimal supervision
- Operate standard hand and power tools used in building construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair
- Perform snow removal using hand shovels and motorized equipment with rotary broom and blade attachments
- Perform other related duties as required
Requirements
- High School Diploma, G.E.D, or equivalent
- One year of experience performing general building maintenance, custodial work, or construction-related work (preferred)
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, or mechanical systems (desirable)
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to safely and effectively operate a variety of power and hand tools
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including bending, stooping, reaching, and frequently lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted
- Physical strength and ability to work in uncomfortable conditions in all types of weather
- Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and perform moderate lifting and moving of furniture
- Excellent organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills
- Professional, positive attitude with good communication skills
- Ability to work productively both alone and with others
- Ability to meet attendance and punctuality requirements, including frequent morning or late evening shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Self-motivated, open-minded problem solver who adapts readily to change
- Must pass a criminal background check and drug test
Working Conditions
- Exposure to outdoors, dust, dirt, heat, cold, arid/dry, humidity, chemicals, wetness, noise, fumes, and vibrations
- Work with and around other employees, both independently and in groups
- Frequent contact with soil, water, plant materials, and occasional exposure to toxic materials and chemicals
- Physical activities include constant standing, kneeling, crouching, handling, balancing, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching, and carrying
- Occasional jumping, crawling, sitting, climbing, throwing, and feeling
- Requires talking, hearing, and seeing
- Constant eye/hand coordination with occasional foot/eye/hand coordination
- Occasional vision strain, rapid speed work, and extreme muscular exertion, along with finger, hand/arm, and foot/leg dexterity
- Mental demands include constant memory for details, attention to multiple items, and occasional estimation of size, quality, and quantity of objects
- Flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
