Part-Time Fire Teaching Assistant - District Wide

About the role
The Fire Teaching Assistant Instructor supports the mission and values of the college by providing supportive instruction to any lead instructor and all students participating within the courses assigned. The Assistant Instructor will maintain knowledge of all current curriculum, licenses or certifications, and awareness of current successful teaching strategies for student success. This position requires availability to instruct on campus and in flexible delivery modes across the district.
Responsibilities
- Complies with College and lead instructor policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, and providing grades on a timely basis.
- Complies with all aspects of Board policies and work rules.
- Maintains an effective line of communications with students, customer-based clientele, college community members, other full-time faculty, and adjunct faculty members.
- Evaluates student performance and provides regular feedback in courses taught.
- Maintains required certifications and licenses for teaching in respective curriculum.
- Demonstrates behaviors and actions that support student recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.
- Demonstrates behaviors and actions that support the College’s values.
- Creates respectful environments and services for all, and works effectively across differences in background and experience.
Requirements
- Firefighter 1 Certified
- Firefighter 2 Certified
- Emergency Services Instructor 1 Certified
- 2 years with a Fire Department
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the District's standard insurance policy terms
- Ability to learn and use technology and alternative delivery methods, including online instruction and distance education
- Skill in oral and written communications
- Ability to adapt to new and emerging technologies and incorporate them into the curriculum
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to work non-standard hours including evening or weekend hours
- Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle or operate office equipment, tools, controls, and/or heavy equipment and machinery
- Capability to push, pull, and/or maneuver equipment as needed
- Capability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds with assistance
- Ability to wear and work in personnel protective equipment as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Class B CDL
- Previous teaching experience with adult learners
- Possibility to secure and maintain a Wisconsin Technical College System Provisional Certification
- Microsoft Office Suite, Internet navigation, various online learning-based program navigation, PeopleSoft experience
Pay
Minimum starting rate of pay: $25.00 per hour
Physical Demands
- Ability to move around the campus to attend meetings and events
- Ability to work in, on, around, over, and under fixed equipment and machinery, including from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding
- Visual and auditory ability to read documents and communicate effectively with students and staff
