Part-time Field Consultant, Texas (Houston Area)

Moms Clean Air Force (Moms) is a community of over 1.6 million moms, dads, and caretakers working together to combat air pollution, including the urgent crisis of our changing climate. We arm members with reliable information and solutions through online resources, articles, action tools, and on-the-ground organizing.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated part-time Field Consultant in the Houston area to engage families and communities on clean air, climate change, and toxic chemical issues. Priority issue areas include advancing clean energy and protecting children and families from air pollution associated with data center growth, oil and gas operations, and petrochemical facilities in Texas.

Responsibilities

• Build and Mobilize a Strong Texas Network
  • Build a diverse coalition of partners, volunteers, and stakeholders to grow Moms Clean Air Force’s mission and support clean air and climate solutions in Texas.
  • Host and participate in community events and digital campaigns to educate the public, gather petition signatures, and mobilize advocates.
• Engage Decision-Makers and Mobilize Advocates
  • Lead visits and advocacy meetings with federal, state, and local elected officials, agency staff, and other decision-makers to advance clean air, climate, and public health priorities.
  • Mobilize and prepare volunteers to engage decision-makers and participate in public hearings, workshops, and other advocacy opportunities, particularly around petrochemical facility oversight and data center development.
• Engage and Educate Texas Communities
  • Plan and participate in meetings, grassroots events, public forums, schools, and parenting events to educate communities, build relationships, and increase Moms Clean Air Force’s visibility.
  • Work with the Membership team to engage, educate, and mobilize a diverse network of Texas members and volunteers through action alerts, email, social media, and other outreach.
• Elevate Moms Clean Air Force in the Media
  • Coordinate with communications staff to secure earned media opportunities across print, television, radio, and digital platforms, including opinion pieces, letters to the editor, and interviews.
  • Elevate the voices and leadership of diverse parents and communities affected by air pollution and climate change through storytelling and media engagement.
  • Serve as a spokesperson and support press events, rapid-response communications, and updates to state-specific webpages and digital platforms.
• Provide periodic reports through weekly conference calls, monthly and quarterly written reports, and other communications as needed.

Qualifications

• Commitment to clean air, climate action, environmental justice, and Indigenous sovereignty.
• Basic understanding of Texas’s environmental issues and policy landscape.
• Demonstrates self-awareness, cultural competency, inclusivity, and ability to work with others across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Self-motivated, innovative, with the ability to work independently.
• Ability to work well under pressure with volunteers, coalitions, and staff.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with constituents, elected officials and allies.
• Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
• Familiarity working with digital advocacy tools and social media.
• Minimum two years of political or community engagement experience preferred.
• Well organized, detail-oriented, goal-driven, and able to prioritize and manage multiple priorities.
• Willingness to work some nights and weekends.
• Must reside in the Houston-metro area.

Pay
