Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Vocal Arts Department seeks a part-time faculty member to teach Italian language courses tailored for undergraduate and graduate classical-singing students. The initial 9-month appointment begins September 1, 2026, and is renewable.

About the role

The successful candidate will join a department that values cultural diversity and multicultural understanding, offering courses in Italian, German, and French focused on language acquisition, fluency, grammar, vocabulary expansion, and cultural exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 2–3 Italian language courses per semester at the undergraduate and graduate levels
  • Advise and guide students to resources that support their learning, development, and wellness
  • Maintain a regular campus presence
  • Participate in Voice Department faculty meetings and committees

Qualifications

  • MA in Italian, comparative literature, or a closely related field (required)
  • Minimum of three years teaching Italian language in an accredited higher-education institution
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Italian language and content courses effectively, embrace new pedagogies, and inspire students
  • Native or near-native proficiency in spoken and written Italian and English
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both languages
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and students
  • Experience and willingness to work within a diverse faculty and student body

Pay

Part-time faculty pay ranges from $66.96 to $138 per hour, with placement into academic rank (Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) determined after the interview process based on qualifications, experience, and institutional needs.
