Part Time Faculty Interest Pool - Health Information Management

About the Role

Portland Community College is accepting applications for a Part-Time Faculty Interest Pool in Health Information Management. The Department will review applications as the need arises for new part-time faculty in this area. Your application may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full-term class assignments.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management
• Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
• Three years of work experience in the Health Information Management profession

Course-Specific Requirements

• HIM 182:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Health Care Administration, Master’s in Public Health, or related graduate degree, or other recognized credential or license in a healthcare field
  • Three years of related experience within the previous five-year period
• HIM 270, HIM 273, and HIM 276:
  • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Three years of ICD-9-CM/ICD-10 coding experience in an acute care facility within the previous five-year period
• HIM 272 and HIM 277:
  • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Three years of ICD-9-CM/ICD-10 coding experience in an acute care facility within the previous five-year period
• HIM 275:
  • Current credential as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician (CCS-P), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Five years of recent experience in CPT coding

Academic Credentials

• Required academic credentials must be earned at a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a foreign institution with equivalent accreditation.
• Transcripts from foreign institutions must be evaluated by an agency with good standing in the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.
• Official transcripts are required within two weeks of the offer date for degrees stated in the qualifications.

Pay

Newly hired Part-Time Faculty generally start at Step 1 of the current salary schedule. Hourly rates are determined based on the type of course taught (Lecture, Lab, or Lecture/Lab). For more information, review the Part-Time Faculty Salary Schedule.

• Employment is limited to individuals residing in Oregon or Washington.
• Employment offers are contingent upon the ability to establish residency in Oregon or Washington and the successful completion of a criminal background check.
