Part-Time Environmental Education Instructor - Burton 4-H Center

About the role

This job is a permanent part-time position as an Environmental Educator at Burton 4-H Center located on Tybee Island, Georgia. The primary responsibility is to independently lead K-12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects offered include life and earth science, ecology, and marine science. Other responsibilities include animal care, maintenance of teaching areas and resources, facilities, grounds, and support of general operations of the facility.

Responsibilities

• Independently lead K-12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting for 1-2 or 3-day field studies. Class subjects offered include both life and earth science, survival skills, team building, high-and low-ropes challenges, and pioneer living skills.
• Teaches classes, and implements new, innovative, academic, and research based curriculum and classes in keeping with state and national standards.
• Maintenance and cleanup of facilities and grounds. Dining hall assistance. General support of overall center operations:
• Office and reception work
• Scheduling school and conference group visits
• Working in the dining hall or kitchen as needed
• Conference group support
• On-call duties
• Maintenance projects
• Housekeeping duties
• Drive buses for group programming
• Animal care and maintenance of teaching areas including the herpetology lab.

Qualifications

• Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
