4-H Environmental Educator - Student Assistant
About the role
The position is a temporary Environmental Educator at Georgia 4-H Centers. The primary responsibility is to independently lead K-12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects offered include life and earth science, ecology, team building, outdoor skills, and living history.
Responsibilities
- Independently lead classes (80%)
- Animal care and maintenance of teaching areas (15%)
- Assisting other departments as needed and general support of overall center operations (5%)
Requirements
- Course work in Biology, Education, Environmental Education, Forestry, Natural Resources, Outdoor Education, Science, or related field.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
Qualifications
- Commitment, genuine interest in child development, dynamic personality, well developed communication skills, creativity, and leadership ability.
- Skill in teaching a wide variety of subjects to K-12 grade youth.
- Broad knowledge of outdoor education and able to work in an outdoor setting.
- Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to work with and care for live teaching animals (reptiles, amphibians, and others).
- Willingness to be trained in high and low ropes course facilitation.
Physical Demands
- Work when exposed to outdoor elements including but not limited to adverse physical and weather conditions.
- Willing to lift 20-40 pounds and walk approximately 3 miles daily.
- Driving.
