Part Time Electrical Technician

About the role
The Part-Time Electrician plays a key role in supporting the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment, with a primary focus on event production and portable power distribution. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required to support special events and operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Assist the assembly, installation, testing and maintenance of electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Maintain strong processes for the inspection of electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments, repairs, and/or replacements, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Ensure proper functionality and usage of tools through regular maintenance and inspections.
- Facilitate daily, weekly, and monthly inspections including forklift and fire alarm.
- Support processes on the determination of continued use and operation of equipment and whether it could be hazardous; advise in writing to the Electrical Manager or higher.
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures, based on project specifications and codes.
- Follow prints to determine the location of wiring and equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
- Ensure proper placement of conduit (pipe or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, underground, or other concealed areas, and pull wires or cables through conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
- Develop process efficiencies for transporting, placing, and connecting portable electrical panels, distribution boxes, cables, cords, and outlet devices.
- Facilitate the setting up of events, maintenance of events, and turnover of events.
Requirements
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Successful completion of applicable technical or vocational training, including an accredited electrical apprenticeship program is highly preferred.
- Two to four years of experience installing conduit, wiring, panels, transformers, lighting, and machinery; planning, installation, and operation of entertainment portable power systems; and troubleshooting of electrical equipment and systems.
- OSHA or Journeyman Certification preferred.
Skills
- Knowledge and/or experience in planning the method, materials, and tools to complete projects.
- Ability to work from ladders, scaffolds, scissor lifts, and straight boom and articulating man lifts to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Strong ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects such as coils of electrical cable.
- Intermediate Math skills (calculate figures/discounts, proportions, area, etc.).
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and lift or move (up to 50 pounds).
- Environmental demands include exposure to wetness/humidity, work near mechanical parts, and work in high, precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures (non-weather), and risk of electrical shock.
