Employment Type

Part-Time Variable Non-Exempt Hourly

Location

This is a remote position with expectations of regular on-site partnership. While candidates may reside anywhere within the United States, preference will be given to those located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area due to the frequency of on-site support required.

Travel

This position requires regular travel to partner school sites throughout the Minneapolis area, typically 4-8 days per month (subject to change).

The Opportunity

At Lavinia Group, a division of K12 Coalition, we partner with schools and districts to create learning environments where all students can thrive. We are seeking a Education Consultant, Special Programs to support schools serving students in Minnesota Setting IV programs. These highly specialized settings support students with significant behavioral, emotional, and learning needs and require strong systems, consistent instructional practices, and collaborative leadership. In this role, you will work directly with teachers, school leaders, and district partners to strengthen classroom environments, implement effective instructional and behavioral practices, and support schools in creating safe, structured, and engaging learning experiences for students.

What You’ll Do

  • School & Program Improvement
    • Partner with school and district leaders to strengthen systems, structures, and practices that support student success in Minnesota Setting IV programs.
    • Conduct observations of classrooms, programs, and schoolwide practices to identify opportunities for improvement.
    • Develop actionable recommendations that help schools create safe, structured, and engaging learning environments.
    • Support schools in increasing instructional time, reducing disruptions, and improving student engagement and outcomes.
    • Monitor progress toward identified goals and adjust support based on school and student needs.
  • Coaching & Professional Learning
    • Provide job-embedded coaching to teachers, instructional staff, and school leaders serving students with significant behavioral, emotional, and academic needs.
    • Model evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices that promote student learning and engagement.
    • Facilitate professional learning sessions, collaborative planning meetings, and coaching conversations.
    • Support educators in implementing consistent classroom routines, expectations, and behavior support strategies.
    • Build staff capacity to independently sustain effective practices over time.
  • Student Behavior & Learning Supports
    • Support schools in implementing proactive behavior management and intervention strategies.
    • Partner with educators to create classroom environments that promote safety, predictability, and positive student behavior.
    • Aid teams in analyzing student behavior and learning data to identify trends and inform interventions.
    • Provide guidance on evidence-based approaches for supporting students with complex behavioral and learning needs.
    • Collaborate with school teams to strengthen systems that support both student well-being and academic achievement.
  • Partnership & Collaboration
    • Build strong relationships with teachers, school leaders, district partners, students, and families as appropriate.
    • Collaborate with Lavinia Group team members to ensure alignment of services and partner support.
    • Document observations, recommendations, progress, and next steps for partner schools.
    • Travel to school sites throughout the Minneapolis area to provide on-site support and coaching.
    • Contribute to additional projects and initiatives as needed to support organizational goals.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field
    • 5+ years of experience in K-12 education
    • Experience working in special education settings serving students with significant behavioral, emotional, and/or learning needs
    • Experience supporting students in highly restrictive educational environments, alternative learning programs, behavioral support programs, or Minnesota Setting IV programs
    • Demonstrated success improving classroom culture, student behavior, and learning outcomes in challenging educational settings
    • Ability to build trust and effectively coach teachers, school leaders, and support staff
    • Ability to travel regularly to school sites throughout the Minneapolis area
  • PREFERRED:
    • Minnesota Special Education licensure
    • Experience in Minnesota Setting IV programs
    • Experience as a special education coordinator, instructional coach, behavior specialist, dean, principal, or district leader
    • Training or experience in Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), restorative practices, de-escalation strategies, or similar frameworks
    • Experience leading school improvement or program improvement initiatives

Compensation Range

The estimated daily rate for each piece of onsite work ranges from $645 to $845 per day, inclusive of preparatory time. This calculation is based on $100/hour for onsite work or virtual billable time $30/hour for non-billable time, such as preparation or internal meetings.
