Job Description and Position Requirements

SOCRATES (Student Disability Resources) is seeking a part-time Educational Assistant for a student enrolled in the Fall 2026 semester. The Educational Assistant will support the student with classroom-based writing and materials organization.

  • Scribe
  • Act as a scribe for the student, handwriting or typing the content according to the student's instructions.
  • Reader
  • Read course-related content aloud as needed by the student. Read assessments aloud as needed by the student and directed by SDR.
  • Materials Organization
  • Find and organize in-class materials (e.g., text, PowerPoint slides, problem sets, graphics) for synchronous use with the instructor and class.
  • Avoids Assisting the student before or after class in meeting with the instructor to get clarification of material and information, as needed.
  • Other Tasks
  • Other tasks as assigned by SDR.

Requirements

  • Time Commitment:
  • Attend scheduled class sessions in-person, on the Penn State Behrend Campus.
  • Schedule time outside of class to work on course assignments.
  • Work an estimated 10 to 20 hours per week.
  • Previous experience working with individuals who have disabilities is preferred but not required.

Additional Notes

Job-related training will be provided. The individual hired for this role is not responsible for individually teaching course material.
