Part-Time Editorial Page Assistant

This is a part-time position (24 hours per week; 3 shifts per week) supporting the Editorial Page team in collaboration with another part-time team member.
Responsibilities
- Manage the letters inbox, identify topics for the daily Letters to the Editor section, edit and fact-check submissions, lay out copy, choose art, write headlines, and publish the letters section online.
- Onboard new freelance opinion writers, communicate with human resources and the opinion editor to get new writers approved, and submit weekly freelance payroll.
- Schedule editorial board meetings, reserve conference rooms, send calendar invitations, and coordinate visits with building security.
- Assist with social media posts.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1-2 years' experience in politically-centered opinion writing or related work.
- Related research and reporting skills.
- Self-motivated and assertive with good use of tact and judgment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proven track record managing multiple tasks and ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and follow-ups.
- Experience managing social media accounts.
- Working knowledge of SEO and social-media best practices.
- Proficiency in preparing WordPress files for online posting.
Pay
Base pay range: $20 - $25 per hour. This range reflects our good-faith estimate and may vary based on a candidate’s experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors.
