About the role
The Part-Time Early Head Start/Head Start Associate Teacher works in partnership with the Early Head Start/Head Start Teacher to plan, implement, and coordinate a comprehensive education program. They support the development of individualized lesson plans for children aged 6 weeks through 5 years, focusing on their social, emotional, physical, linguistic, and intellectual development.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe classroom environment, conduct emergency and safety procedures, and supervise children at all times.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate classroom activities and environments that align with the High Scope Curriculum and the Continuity of Care Model.
- Support children in developing positive social relationships, self-images, and conflict resolution skills using Conscious Discipline.
- Partner with families to build goal-oriented relationships, support their well-being, and engage in regular classroom contact, interdisciplinary meetings, and home visits.
- Develop monthly family engagement activities based on children's and families' interests and provide monthly classroom family engagement activities.
- Ensure the timely completion of necessary paperwork, observe, assess, and document children's skills, behaviors, growth, and development, and develop individualized learning opportunities.
- Utilize classroom and school data to improve teaching practice and ensure high-quality instruction, while maintaining confidentiality of child files and portfolios.
- Collaborate with coworkers, participate in professional development, and support the interdisciplinary team in providing support for families with unique backgrounds and needs.
- Follow all mandates of Head Start Regulations, state and local childcare licensing regulations, and Project Eagle/Educare of Kansas City's philosophy and curriculum.
Requirements
- Education: Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or closely related field; or a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or closely related field; or a combination of education and experience that meets the minimum qualifications.
- Certifications: CPR and First Aid Certified or willing to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
- Experience: 1 year of experience in early childhood education; experience working in an Early Head Start Center-based program; experience working with early intervention and children with special needs; experience implementing curriculum; experience using assessment data for instructional purposes and using assessment tools to measure children's development; experience with research partnerships; knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards.
- Language: Bilingual Spanish/English.
