About the role

The Associate I, Donation Services is typically the first point of contact for customers dropping off items at retail centers and/or stand-alone donation centers (ADC). The Donation Services Associate provides excellent and friendly customer service by greeting customers in a timely manner and assisting as needed, which may include lifting or unloading donations from a customer’s vehicle or other area. Associates are expected to handle goods with care, showing respect for donated items.

Responsibilities

  • Provides excellent customer service, greeting customers in a timely manner, answering product questions as needed.
  • Assists every customer by unloading donations from vehicle or other areas.
  • Ensures donated items are handled with care and sorted into appropriate bins or production areas.
  • Inspects all donations within assigned areas and makes decisions on quality to sort appropriately for the sales floor or to be shipped to other locations.
  • Ensures a safe, organized, and clean environment is maintained for both customers and fellow employees within the donations entrance and parking lot areas.
  • Maintains remote donation centers, sheds, and/or trailers if applicable, following appropriate opening and closing procedures when working at a remote site. Ensures supplies are kept well stocked at remote site as necessary.
  • Tracks and reports on donation levels daily to ensure trailers do not become overstocked when working in remote donation center locations.
  • Communicates timely when donation warehouse and/or trailer(s) are becoming full and a truck is needed.
  • Follows all retail center/donation center policies and procedures.
  • Assists drivers in loading and unloading donations onto the truck when necessary.
  • Follows all safety processes and procedures to help provide a safe working environment for employees and customers.
  • Cross-trains in other departments or areas; acts as a back-up for other areas as required.
  • May be required to report to the store ADC or stand-alone center when necessary.
  • Job duties may extend beyond the tasks listed and may include additional responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • One (1) year of retail experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to make decisions by following Goodwill standards and guidelines.
  • Must have basic computer skills to log into a computer system to order supplies and to send and receive email.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions with varying temperatures.
  • Must be able to use safety equipment to assist with lifting heavy objects such as a dolly or pallet jack.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule to include weekends, evenings, and holidays with occasional overtime as necessary.
