Part-Time - Deputy - SMAG

About the Role

This is a part-time temporary position within a specialized unit responsible for monitoring and maintaining security on land and waterside areas of the Houston Ship Channel Security District. The role is based at the United States Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston building and may end at any time based on departmental needs.

Responsibilities

• Views, records, and gathers information from video feeds strategically placed throughout the Houston Ship Channel Security District.
• Compiles and disseminates intelligence to the HCSO, other law enforcement agencies, and the military.
• Assists with intelligence requests from law enforcement and military entities.
• Maintains equipment assigned to the SMAG unit.
• Completes and enters reports associated with the assignment.
• Performs other duties as required or necessary.

Requirements

• Must be an honorably retired Peace Officer.
• Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in law enforcement, record management, or a related field.
• Must have an active TCOLE Peace Officer License (Basic Peace Officer License minimum).
• Basic understanding of electronics, digital audio/video equipment.
• Must protect sensitive/confidential information.
• Excellent attendance record.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Texas Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedures.
• Basic understanding of computers, electronics, and digital audio/video equipment.
• Proficiency in Superion/ARS, JWEB, JOTS, and other computer programs.
• Ability to obtain a secret clearance through the Department of Homeland Security (no credit issues or judgments allowed).
• Ability to maintain professional relationships with law enforcement and military entities.
• Ability to communicate via radio, telephone, email, and text message (Bridge4PS platform).
• Willingness to accept and complete additional training.
• Flexibility to work day, evening, or night shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Preferences

• Previous patrol/investigative assignment.
• Advanced understanding of video and computer systems.
• Bilingual.
• Current or previous holder of a secret clearance.

General Information

This is a part-time temporary position without benefits. Hours range from a minimum of 20 to a maximum of 30 per week, based on departmental needs, and may include weekends and holidays. The position is located in Houston.
