Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Select and administer anesthesia techniques, medications and adjunct drugs appropriate to the individual patient within established procedures, pre, intra, and postoperatively.
- Review patient charts, perform physical assessment pertinent to anesthesia orders and evaluate laboratory data and formulate a written anesthesia plan for pre, intra and post op care of surgical patients.
- Able to perform endotracheal intubation and extubation, as well as invasive therapy and/or monitoring.
- Identify and manage emergency situations including CPR.
- Communicate and cooperate effectively with staff at all levels.
- Demonstrate sensitivity and respect for all customers.
- Demonstrate a positive attitude toward working place and its requirements.
Duties
- Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
- Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Maintains DCH Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
- Ensures the safety of patients, visitors and employees.
- Identifies and reduces unsafe practices that may result in harm to patients, visitors and employees.
- Reduces risks and hazards to promote safety for patients, visitors and employees.
Work Conditions
- Environmental: Includes exposure to human body fluids, anesthetic gases, disease, infection, lab chemicals and hazardous material.
- Physical: Medium work - Exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Psychological: Contact with others, face to face or in groups, dealing with all internal and external customers. Responsibility for the health, safety and confidentiality of others. Works well in a team setting.
Qualifications
- Current Alabama RN license.
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia.
- Initial certification and current recertification with the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
- Competent with anesthesia equipment and pharmaceuticals as appropriate for job.
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
- Read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
