Part-time Courier

About the role

A vacancy for a part-time Courier exists within the Administrative Services Division of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This position is responsible for the distribution of materials and equipment throughout Chester County and beyond, ensuring proper care of items handled during transport. The Supervisor assigns the Courier a specific route with items to be picked up and/or delivered. A Courier may be asked to cover additional stops in the absence of another Courier.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Valid driver's license and a safe driving record required
• Knowledge of Chester County Area
• Previous experience in shipping and receiving is desirable
• Able to lift up to 65 lbs as needed
• Experience with, or the ability to learn, necessary computer and software skills required

Responsibilities

• Transport all requested materials and equipment to and from assigned locations. Items to be transported might include, but are not limited to: mail, catalogs, books, packages, office supplies, smaller furniture items, food items, bank deposits, and technology or office equipment.
• Organize materials and load the vehicle at requested pick-up sites.
• If an item is at a Courier pick-up location, but not on the Courier's daily delivery sheet, the Courier is responsible for determining whether he/she is to pick the item up that day.
• Deliver all materials and equipment to locations specified on the daily delivery sheet and deliver items picked up at outlying locations to ESC. When returning to the Intermediate Unit, unload the van, sort mail and other items, and distribute all items to the appropriate locations.
• Pick up money to be delivered to the Business Office at ESC, make bank deposits, and return bank bags to the Business Office, as required.
• Pick up mail from ESC and deliver to the post office daily or as required.
• Lift, carry, load, and unload materials of varying sizes and weights, including heavier or oversized items.
• Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service. This may include, but is not limited to:
  • Daily use of a cell phone and the applications on that cell phone as required.
  • Use of interoffice e-mail system.
  • Use of courier related and other software applications to complete tasks as, or if, required.
  • Attend meetings as required.
  • Work with co-workers to assure proper maintenance of courier vehicles so that they stay clean and in good mechanical condition, including appropriate inspections and maintenance.
  • Collect data and maintain logs and/or records as requested.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned. For example, the Courier may be assigned to deliver, set up, and/or tear down equipment for special functions, some of which are outside of Chester County.

Schedule

2 days per week — 5.5 hours per day. Additional days may be required based on operational needs, including staff coverage and seasonal demands.

Pay

2026–2027 Rate: $16.51 – $17.37 per hour (based upon relevant experience)
