Part-Time Counseling: Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, EOPS (Pool)

Duties And Responsibilities

Provide counseling services to EOPS students, including academic, vocational, career, and holistic counseling on/off campus.

Provide crisis intervention counseling as needed to assist students facing issues that could interfere with their academic success.

Assist students in clarifying their educational goals, developing student educational plans (SEPs), and selecting courses.

Establish and maintain connections with college programs and community agencies that would benefit EOPS students (Independent Living Program, San Mateo County Office of Education, Human Services Agency, Financial Aid, Multicultural Center, Sparkpoint, etc.).

Develop and prepare EOPS Program Review and Student Learning Outcomes and Service Area Outcomes.

Develop and teach Counseling/Career and Personal Development courses.

Facilitate student success/faculty development workshops.

Perform other counseling-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• Master's degree or higher in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, or career development, or the equivalent.
• EOPS counselors hired after October 24, 1987, shall:
• Have completed a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
• Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling field-work courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
• In addition, an EOPS counselor hired after October 24, 1987, shall have two years of occupational experience in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons handicapped by language, social or economic disadvantages.
• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.
