About the role
The Outagamie County Jail provides a safe and secure environment for inmates, focusing on their medical, educational, emotional, spiritual, and nutritional needs. The jail aims to help offenders cope with incarceration and reintegrate into society.
Responsibilities
- Conducts required physical checks of inmates and cell areas, ensuring safety and security.
- Takes action to maintain safety and security.
- Maintains cleanliness and security inspections and searches.
- Distributes meals, canteen, mail, uniforms, bedding, and other supplies to inmates.
- Escorts inmates to and from visits, programs, etc.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of inmate counts, status changes, activities, events, etc.
- Writes reports when notable incidents occur.
- Restrains hostile and non-compliant inmates as necessary.
- Uses minimal force to gain compliance when trained.
- Responds to emergency situations according to department policies and procedures.
- Custodies, books, and releases inmates according to department policy.
- Controls access to and from jail.
- Performs active law enforcement measures within the jail setting.
- Handles frequent exposure to high degrees of danger.
- Maintains a high degree of physical conditioning.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age.
- A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- To become Wisconsin Corrections Certified within the first year of employment.
- Successful completion of physical agility test, psychological test, post-offer physical evaluation, and/or other tests to determine fitness for employment.
SkillsKnowledge of, and ability to use, computer software and applications used by department.
