About the Role
The PT Lab Coordinator coordinates all aspects of the laboratory experience for biology classes, including budget management, purchasing, inventory maintenance, instructor training, hazardous material disposal, and classroom assistance. They also support the Geology and Physics departments with similar responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Prepare labs as requested by professors, including cleaning glassware and making solutions.
- Organize and maintain a clean, safe prep area; reset labs for each new class.
- Set up and break down labs, assist instructors, and manage lab equipment.
- Collect and arrange lab materials according to lab manuals and syllabi.
- Coordinate lab schedules and communicate with instructors to ensure smooth transitions.
- Ensure safety and good practice procedures in the lab.
- Evaluate new lab manuals and determine required materials, supplies, equipment, or training.
- Evaluate and justify budgets; communicate budgetary concerns to management.
- Adjust lab requirements based on curriculum changes or inconsistencies.
- Train and reinforce training for other lab assistants.
- Use online lab scheduling software and update scheduling boards.
- Maintain chemical inventories, ensuring proper labeling and safe storage.
- Purchase materials and supplies, manage inventory (receiving, labeling, storage).
- Process biohazard materials and waste in compliance with state and federal safety laws.
- Set up and maintain Right-to-Know Centers and chemical inventory/SDS.
- Update lab preparation sheets.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and at least 1 year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Computer literacy.
- Safety consciousness and a strong safety record.
- Flexibility and creativity to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong Chemistry background.
Physical Abilities
The work is primarily sedentary, involving sitting comfortably. Occasional walking, standing, bending, or carrying light items may be required. No special physical demands are needed.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards. Equipment used includes PCs, calculators, phones, and general office equipment. Interaction with internal and external contacts is required.
Pay
Hourly pay rate is $17.94.
