Part-Time Cook/Kitchen Assistant

This is a part-time position that reports to the Chef and is located on JWCC's main campus in Quincy, Illinois. Position will begin immediately. Job Description John Wood Community College is seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to serve as a Cook / Kitchen Assistant. This position is designed to support the Chef in servicing the PACT childcare program on the JWCC campus, Hot Spot café, Catering program and other various aspects of the Dining Services department as assigned. Key Responsibilities Prepare and serve food items, including breakfasts, lunches, and snacks, according to standardized recipes and procedures. Assist with food preparation tasks like washing, cutting, and preparing ingredients. Know how to properly store and label food items. Adhere to PACT's strict service timeline for food delivery.Handle complaints and resolve issues in a professional manner. Interact with PACT and JWCC staff and stakeholders with respect and a solution-focused mindset.Properly wash and store all service-related items, dishes, glassware, flatware, etc.Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment.Follow food safety regulations and guidelines. Maintain good personal hygiene.Assist with inventory management, stocking supplies, and rotating inventory. Complete necessary tracking documents for PACT inventory and other compliance. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations. Applicants will be required to have a valid food handler's certification.Previous experience in food service or customer service preferred.Basic knowledge of kitchen operations.Basic food preparation knowledge.Excellent service and communication skills. WORKING CONDITIONS Environment The Kitchen Assistant will work primarily in an indoor kitchen environment – with some office and classroom settings, and rare outdoor settings.Position may involve standing for extended periods.Must be able to lift and/or carry 40lb.The necessary work is extremely time sensitive. Applicants are expected to arrive at work in a punctual manner for every shift and will be held responsible for covering work duties in advance for any sickness or absence. Work Schedule Tuesday– Friday, 9:00am-3:00pmOther hours as needed, not to exceed 28 hours per week. SALARY This is a non-exempt position with an estimated hourly range beginning at $17-$18.50.
