Part Time Certified Medical Assistant

Performs basic nursing skills and/or serves under the direction and supervision of the practice physician, advanced practice professional, and/or registered nursing staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
• Current National Certification as Certified Medical Assistant.
• Current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Practical Nursing, or appropriate state board where services will be provided, as a practical nurse OR current multi-state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• One (1) year of healthcare experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet and escort patients to exam rooms; prepare for provider visit by obtaining initial information and vital signs.
• Prepare exam rooms for patients with attention to cleanliness and availability of supplies.
• Assist with and/or perform exams, tests, and procedures.
• Schedule appointments and set up referral contacts as needed.
• Assist provider during patient examinations and procedures.
• Educate patients on follow-up expectations.
• Maintain quality control testing logs as required.
• Ensure all medical equipment is in proper working condition.
• Assist patients with completion of medical documentation.
• Provide direct patient care, as outlined in the patient’s plan of care and/or as directed by the Registered Nurse, to promote comfort and/or return to functional health for the patient.
• Perform designated therapeutic procedures to assigned patients as needed.
• Accurately observe, record, and report to the Registered Nurse all patient concerns, symptoms, reactions, and progress in a timely manner.
• Assist physicians and the Registered Nurse with examinations and procedures, as assigned.
• Utilize available supplies in a cost-effective manner to help contain patient costs.
• Contribute to the nursing assessment by collecting, reporting, and recording objective and subjective data accurately and timely.
• Observe the condition or change in condition of the patient, record signs and symptoms of deviation from normal health status, and report findings to the Registered Nurse.
• Participate in the development of the patient’s plan of care by providing data, contributing to the identification of priorities, and assisting in the identification of measures to maintain comfort and support human functions and responses.
• Provide patient care within a designated shift, based on the nursing process and within role/scope of practice.
• Use standards of care and standards of practice to guide care delivery.
• Accurately and safely administer intramuscular, subcutaneous, IV, and oral medications as assigned.
• Accept accountability for care provided by self and health care providers to whom care is delegated.
• Consult with the Registered Nurse to seek guidance in delivery of nursing care, as necessary.
• Obtain instruction and supervision as necessary from the Registered Nurse when implementing nursing techniques or practices.

Physical Requirements

• MEDIUM WORK - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.
• Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and be capable of normal rotation, standing, and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.
• HEAVY/HARD WORK - Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning of patients, standing, walking, carrying patients, materials, and equipment weighing 40+ lbs.
