Part Time - CDL Delivery Driver
About the role
This position is responsible for delivering merchandise to customers, providing exceptional customer service, and ensuring safe and efficient operations in compliance with Lowe’s policies and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Responsibilities
- Customer Service
- Provides SMART customer service by executing Lowe’s customer service policies, procedures, and programs.
- Seeks out customers to understand their needs and assists in locating, demonstrating, selecting, carrying, and/or loading merchandise.
- Listens to and responds knowledgeably to customer and employee questions, guiding them through projects as needed.
- Demonstrates appreciation to customers and communicates product details, including stock availability, special orders, features, benefits, applications, and warranty information.
- Contacts customers regarding delivery details or coordinates with truck drivers to ensure timely communication.
- In-stock and Delivery Planning
- Plans delivery activities, prints loading tickets, and ensures on-time delivery of orders.
- Pulls merchandise, builds and bands delivery loads, and loads trucks within payload capacity according to delivery orders.
- Inspects the condition of products (e.g., appliances) before loading for delivery or assisting customers with loading.
- Matches items on invoices with quantities loaded by verifying descriptions, items, and model numbers.
- Clean and Safe Stores
- Ensures loads are safe, secure, and compliant with DOT regulations.
- Updates delivery and route status (e.g., on-site, completed) using systems like iPhone for tracking.
- Unloads, installs, and tests appliances upon delivery.
- Verifies daily vehicle inspections, ensures cleanliness, and reports maintenance needs for delivery vehicles and equipment (e.g., lift gates).
- Completes DOT reporting to maintain certification and CDL compliance.
- Detects and reports signs of shoplifting, theft, or security risks to management or Asset Protection.
- Ensures compliance with housekeeping standards (e.g., Zone Recovery) to maintain cleanliness and organization.
- Maintains a safe work environment by conducting safety reviews, noting hazards, keeping aisles clear, and securing doors and gates.
- Adheres to safety requirements, including top stock safety, reinstalling safety cables, using aisle blockers, tether lines, spotters, and safety devices.
- Operates store equipment as needed, such as Zebra phones, computers, CCTV systems, key cutters, panel saws, paint mixers, flooring cutters, and compactors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Class A CDL License (required for locations with multi-unit CMV, such as tractor trailers and flatbeds) or Class B CDL License with air brake endorsement (required for locations with single-unit CMV, such as tandem flatbeds).
- Valid medical certificate or ability to obtain one upon employment.
- Ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) screen in accordance with company requirements.
- Ability to obtain sales-related licensure or registration as required by law.
- Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction).
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to comply with DOT and CDL regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience driving a semi-truck/trailer or certification from a driving school.
- 6 months of experience performing in-home delivery or retail customer service.
- 3 months of experience operating a forklift or Moffett for onloading/offloading a vehicle.
