About the role

Oakland County Health Division is seeking an Auxiliary Health Clerk to support public health outreach throughout Oakland County. The position is part-time and requires some flexibility in the schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver public health outreach and support services at community locations throughout Oakland County, including churches, schools, community centers, and partner organizations.
  • Absorb and provide information concerning available services and procedures to persons visiting or seeking aid at the Health Division.
  • Assist professional staff with health screenings, routine clinical support activities, and minor laboratory testing at outreach events and community clinics.
  • Take and document physical measurements and accurately record findings following established procedures.
  • Help residents access public health services by scheduling and rescheduling appointments and connecting them with available resources.
  • Aid in creating and distributing health education materials and public health information.
  • Assist in program planning, data collection, record keeping, and report preparation.
  • Collaborate with public health professionals and community partners to deliver exceptional customer service and improve community health outcomes.
  • Utilize County technology and software to maintain records and support program operations.

Requirements

  • Possess an Associate’s Degree or equivalent education from an accredited college or university with coursework in Journalism, English, Psychology, Sociology, Early Childhood Education or closely related areas.
  • Have Merit System status in any classification and be currently employed in the Health & Human Services Department.
  • Have successfully completed at least the equivalent of one (1) year of college at an accredited college or university with coursework in Journalism, English, Psychology, Sociology, Early Childhood Education, or closely related areas.
  • Have two (2) years of full-time work experience in the Oakland County Health & Human Services Department conducting or assisting in various para-professional health assignments and activities.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing college study leading to a degree in Public Health, Psychology, Nursing, Sociology, Social Work, or associated areas.
  • Reasonable knowledge of social needs, habits, and characteristics of behavior.
  • Reasonable ability to counsel, instruct and control people.
  • Reasonable ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Reasonable ability to prepare routine reports.
  • Reasonable ability to cope with challenging situations requiring immediate decisions in accordance with department policies and objectives.
  • Reasonable ability to develop and maintain effective communications with people.
  • Familiar with current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet software.

Pay

$21.88 - $29.32 per hour

Schedule

Part-time schedule with some flexibility required.
