Part-Time Assistant Producer

The anticipated starting salary range for Chicago, I.L. based individuals expressing interest in this position is $17.05/Hr. - $17.05/Hr. Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities and location of the applicant, as well as internal and external equity.

Responsibilities

• Taking and editing audio from multiple sources including reporters, weather feeds, and network audio feeds.
• Placing phone calls to check on news stories and using internet and other sources to follow up or gain insight for use in news stories.
• Answering telephones in a polite and helpful manner.
• Recognizing the urgency of telephone calls (immediate, routine, can wait) and answering listener questions, which may require determination and ingenuity.
• Screwing calls from public relations firms, taking messages for reporters, and referring complaints to management.
• Taking detailed news tips and forwarding them immediately to the desk.
• Performing work on very short deadlines with attention to detail.
• Prioritizing high volume of work and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Performing other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• A college degree, with a concentration in broadcast journalism is preferred.
• Hands-on internships or experience at a college radio station is required.
• Familiarity with digital audio editing techniques.
• Working knowledge of the basic facts of topical news stories and demonstration of 'news judgment'.
• Familiarity with basic technical standards including level noise and clarity of sound.
• Ability to write clearly and juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
