Part-Time AP Tutor (History and ELA)

About the role

We're seeking a knowledgeable, motivated Tutor to support high school students in AP US History and social studies as well as in ELA, including essay writing, DBQs (document-based questions), and exam prep. This is an in-person tutoring role with flexible hours.

Ideal candidates include teachers, substitute teachers, history/social studies majors, education majors, student teachers, experienced tutors, or anyone with a strong background in history who wants to make a meaningful impact.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalized, 1:1 tutoring in AP US History and/or general social studies and ELA for high school students
• Help students develop essay-writing, argumentation, and analytical reading skills specific to AP History exams
• Support homework, test preparation, and study strategies for exams and coursework
• Tailor instruction to each student's learning style, needs, and goals
• Build confidence and encourage a positive mindset toward learning
• Submit session notes and communicate progress with families and our office

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of US History and/or AP-level social studies and ELA coursework
• Prior tutoring or teaching experience preferred (AP experience a plus)
• Reliable transportation for in-home sessions in Woodland Hills, Calabasas and surrounding areas
• Professional, punctual, and dependable work habits
• Minimum 3-month commitment
• After-school availability preferred (typically 3-7pm)
• Bachelor's degree or current enrollment in a history, social studies, or education-related program preferred
