Enforces animal and rabies control ordinances and licensing regulations within the municipality.
Responsibilities
- Capture and impound dangerous or stray animals
- Investigate cases of animal cruelty
- Enforce City of Conroe and State Laws
- Provide expert testimony in court cases
- Rescue trapped animals
- Write incident reports
- Provide humane care to animals under supervision
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years of age
- Possession of a valid class "C" Texas driver's license or higher with good driving history
- Must complete Animal Control Officer certification course within one year of hire
- Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening
- Must pass FBI Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) fingerprint-based criminal background check and maintain CJIS eligibility
- A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required
Skills
- Ability to run and chase animals
- Ability to work out-of-doors in all types of weather
- Ability to work for long periods of time in a smoke-free workplace
Physical Demands
- Work is heavy and requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally with assistance, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force consistently to move objects
- Physical abilities required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking
