Part-time Afterschool Program Leader

About the role

This is a part-time position with a maximum of 1,508 hours per year and is not eligible for paid holidays, leave, or benefits. The Building Brains Afterschool Program Leader assists the afterschool director in planning and implementing daily programming to meet the needs of children in attendance, fostering their intellectual, creative, artistic, and athletic enrichment.

Responsibilities

• Assist the afterschool director with planning and implementing daily programs tailored to children’s needs, including setting up projects and activity areas.
• Act as a liaison between parents, staff, and school personnel, addressing student performance and behavior as needed.
• Monitor individuals or small groups of students, ensuring understanding of program rules and maintaining appropriate conduct.
• Oversee children’s health, safety, and physical well-being; perform routine First Aid, CPR, and emergency first aid as required.
• Interact with children in a supportive manner to improve self-esteem, social skills, and emotional well-being.
• Assist in planning and conducting parent/student orientation regarding program policies and procedures.
• Help develop and coordinate a calendar of activities and events to complement student learning and enrichment.
• Demonstrate and assist with art projects and oversee physical activities such as basketball, kickball, softball, dodgeball, and running.
• Maintain program standards of behavior, resolve minor disputes, and refer serious issues to supervisors.
• Keep the program environment clean and organized, involving students in cleanup before, during, and after activities.
• Perform clerical duties, including preparing materials, logging information, maintaining records, and assisting with student enrollment.
• Operate athletic equipment, arts and crafts supplies, and office equipment.
• Assist with budgeting, expenditures, and inventory of equipment and supplies.
• Participate in staff meetings and in-service training as needed.
• Collaborate on public relations efforts to promote student enrollment and communicate program objectives.
• Lead or facilitate educational programs for groups of 10 to 25 students with patience and diplomacy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• One year of experience working in an organized camp, afterschool, daycare, or similar setting with school-aged children (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Valid driver’s license.
• CPR and First Aid certifications (must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Successful completion of a comprehensive background check and fingerprinting, with a satisfactory determination from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).

Preferred Qualifications

• Degree in education or childcare.
• Experience working with and monitoring school-aged children in an organized camp, afterschool, daycare, or similar setting.

Pay

Hourly rate: $16.80 per hour.
