About the role
Lancaster County Parks and Recreation is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and caring individuals to join their team as Part-Time After-School Counselors.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children in grades K–5 in a safe, structured environment.
- Assist with daily homework and academic activities.
- Lead and participate in indoor and outdoor games, crafts, and group activities.
- Foster a nurturing, positive environment that promotes cooperation, self-esteem, and good behavior.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times.
- Distribute and supervise snack time, ensuring cleanliness and proper nutrition guidelines.
- Maintain clean program areas, including gyms and activity rooms.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
- Follow all departmental policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Report any incidents, concerns, or issues to the Recreation Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Assist with extended hours during school closings, special events, early dismissals, holidays, field trips, and other camps as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 3 months – 1 year of experience working with children ages 5–11 in a structured setting (school, camp, childcare, recreation, etc.). Must be at least 18 years old.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs., bend, run, walk, and engage in physical activity for extended periods. May be exposed to varying weather conditions during outdoor play.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings, including playgrounds, gymnasiums, and activity rooms.
