About the role
Lancaster County Parks and Recreation is seeking enthusiastic, responsible, and caring individuals to join their team as Part-Time After-School Counselors.
Responsibilities
- Supervise children in grades K–5 in a safe, structured environment.
- Assist with daily homework and academic activities.
- Lead and participate in indoor and outdoor games, crafts, and group activities.
- Foster a nurturing, positive environment that promotes cooperation, self-esteem, and good behavior.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times.
- Distribute and supervise snack time, ensuring cleanliness and proper nutrition guidelines.
- Maintain clean program areas, including gyms and activity rooms.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, and staff.
- Follow all departmental policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Report any incidents, concerns, or issues to the Recreation Coordinator in a timely manner.
- Assist with extended hours during school closings, special events, early dismissals, holidays, field trips, and other camps as needed.
Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Minimum of 3 months –1 year of experience working with children ages 5–11 in a structured setting (school, camp, childcare, recreation, etc.). Must be at least 18 years old. Must possess strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills. Ability to actively participate in recreational activities and games. Must be dependable, punctual, and have a positive attitude. Must hold a valid South Carolina driver's license and have reliable transportation.

Benefits
- Work Schedule: Standard Hours: Monday through Friday, 1:30 PM – 6:00 PM Extended Hours: May vary during school closings, teacher workdays, special events, and center weekend programs.
