St. Helen School is located in the heart of West Town - Ukrainian Village, a vibrant community where education of elementary students is a top priority. Rooted in Catholic teaching with a respect for diversity, SHS gives students opportunities to grow in their faith and understand that God is present in their lives. The school serves 240 students in preschool through eighth grade, providing an inclusive, collaborative, and differentiated curriculum that instills a strong faith foundation. Our teachers collaborate to support interdisciplinary learning in Spanish, physical education, art, music, and STEM, while grade-band teams implement a rigorous and vertically aligned curriculum.

Beyond the classroom, we take a comprehensive approach in advancing students' social, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth through service, learning, extracurricular, and athletic programs. Our graduates are faith-filled leaders equipped with 21st-century skills, accepted at top-tier Chicago public and private high schools each year.

Responsibilities

• Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play during the after school program
• Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment
• Assist with behavior guidance using positive and developmentally appropriate strategies
• Help children with self-care routines such as toileting, handwashing, and meals
• Prepare materials and set up interactive activities
• Communicate professionally with staff, parents, and guardians as directed
• Follow all school policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Attend required faculty and staff meetings
• Cooperate with the administrators and staff members in school-related meetings, activities, and projects

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Experience working with children preferred
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude

Pay

This position has an hourly range of $18.00 - $20.00. An employee’s pay within the salary range will be based on factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
