Part-Time After-Care Instructor

Location: Van Nuys, California | Part Time | $20-$23 per hour

Responsibilities

• Supervise children during after-school programs, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
• Implement engaging activities that promote social, emotional, and cognitive development aligned with educational standards.
• Manage classroom behavior through effective behavior management techniques and positive reinforcement strategies.
• Collaborate with parents, guardians, and school staff to communicate children's progress and address any concerns.
• Administer basic first aid when necessary, following health and safety protocols.
• Support children with special education needs by adapting activities and providing individualized attention when required.
• Monitor individuals or small groups of students assigned to an after-school program; assure student understanding of program rules and procedures; maintain appropriate order and student conduct.
• Assist in the planning and implementation of a daily program which will meet the needs of the children in attendance; set up program, project, and activity areas as needed.
• Support in teacher coordination and overall program operations for Extended Care and Enrichment classes.
• Foster a positive relationship with teachers and staff.
• Assist in maintaining program standards of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in activities without interfering with the natural, informal atmosphere of the After-School Program; assist in resolving student disputes; refer serious discipline problems to program supervisors.
• Maintain a clean and organized environment for students; demonstrate and involve students in cleaning and organizing the program activities areas before, during, and after use.

Requirements

• Proven experience working with children in educational, childcare, camp, or tutoring settings.
• Strong classroom management skills with the ability to maintain discipline in a positive manner.
• Knowledge of childhood development principles and early childhood education best practices.
• Bachelor's degree preferred with a focus on education or child development.
• Contagious enthusiasm and charisma, a passion for customer service, and the ability to engage and inspire students, parents, and colleagues.
• Encourager of student engagement and participation by fostering peer and multi-age activities.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Risk-taker with a creative and collaborative approach to problem-solving.
• Outstanding multitasking skills and ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment.
• One year of experience working with children.

Schedule

• Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM
• Thursday: 1:00 PM – 5:50 PM

Pay

$20-$23 per hour
