Police Athletic League (PAL) of New York City is an independent youth development nonprofit serving children from ages 2 to young adulthood across all five boroughs. Programs include Head Start, after-school and summer day camps, evening teen centers, college readiness, youth employment, juvenile justice initiatives, and competitive and recreational sports.

About the role

We are seeking part-time Administrative Assistants to support out-of-school-time programming and provide excellent customer service to the families and youth we serve. This position will be a key member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Elementary or Middle School Director, and may serve youth from elementary to high school through SEL, STEM, Literacy, Sports, Arts, Mental Health, and College and Career Access Programming.

Responsibilities

  • Foster social and emotional competencies and mental and physical well-being in a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
  • Plan and implement an efficient enrollment process to meet PAL’s target enrollment by established deadlines.
  • Create and maintain participant files aligned with SACC standards, including medical needs, IEPs, support plans, and logs.
  • Ensure part-time staff are aware of students with IEPs, share support plans, and track logs.
  • Enter attendance into PAL databases accurately and within established deadlines.
  • Answer questions from parents and staff.
  • Coordinate with the Principal, Director, Regional Director, and Headquarters to ensure timely communication of important program data (calendars, registration numbers, etc.).
  • Align program office procedures with PAL’s strategic objectives, policies, agency programming calendar, SACC regulations, and contractual obligations.
  • Respond appropriately to time-sensitive mental health needs, such as suicide prevention, grief, and loss due to death or incarceration of a family member, and provide referrals to mental health services as needed.
  • Lead the compliance process for new PAL hires and manage office supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of sixty credits toward a degree from an accredited college or university in administration or human resources.
  • A minimum of 5 years of paid work experience in a nonprofit youth or social service agency in an administrative or managerial capacity.
  • Willingness to learn and grow, including integrating mental health, SEL, and special needs inclusion skills into programming.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese preferred.
  • Ability to travel to any PAL location in the five boroughs for professional development days.
  • Availability for training opportunities outside of program hours.

Pay

$21.00–$23.00 per hour.
