Part-Time (.13) Elementary Enrichment Specialists (SPARK)

Hours: Teacher's contract plus up to 20 summer days scheduled by mutual agreement.

Position Objective

To teach in elementary SPARK labs, providing enrichment to all students K-5.

Qualifications

  • Demonstration of successful teaching experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of research and evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of the New York State Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards.
  • Knowledge of the New York State Science Learning Standards.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with NYS testing, instructional shifts, and data analysis.
  • Experience in the design, management, and review of curriculum and assessment.
  • Ability to utilize interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships in a team environment.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support coherent implementation of the NYS Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards.
  • Support coherent implementation of the New York State Science Learning Standards and standards-based science instruction.
  • Support coherent implementation of the NYS Arts Standards.
  • Support coherent implementation of the NYS Technology Standards.
  • Collaborate with teacher leaders and classroom teachers to help plan and facilitate enrichment opportunities across all content areas in the general education classroom.
  • Attend various professional development sessions to learn and disseminate new science, technology, and math instructional practices to teachers.
  • Develop and implement high quality enrichment curriculum in a STEM setting.
  • Create a system for communicating enrichment opportunities to parents and the greater school community.
  • Run an activity period when not teaching a STEM lab.
  • Attend Instructional Support Team and Student Support Team meetings when discussing the enrichment needs of students.
  • Assist with the selection and adoption of new resources and instructional materials.
  • Provide support, guidance, and resources to aid in the design and delivery of effective instruction and assessments.
  • Coordinate with the other enrichment specialists to provide similar opportunities across the four elementary buildings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent for School Improvement and Community Engagement.

Reports to: Deputy Superintendent for School Improvement and Community Engagement.
