About the role

The position is a hands-on trainee role (Parole Agent 1) that teaches you how to supervise offenders released on probation or parole to serve the remainder of their sentence in the community. Successful completion of the 12‑month training period results in a promotion to Parole Agent 2 with a salary increase. You will help guide individuals rebuilding their lives, promote public safety, and reduce recidivism. The role is within the Department of Corrections (following the merger of the Department of Corrections and the Board of Probation and Parole per Senate Bill 411). Work locations may include the Pittsburgh District Office (134 Enterprise Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15206), North Shore Sub Office (1121 West North Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15233), or Greensburg Sub Office (333 Harvey Avenue, Greensburg, PA 15601), with actual assignment based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Field Operations: Utilize a state vehicle to meet with parolees where they live and work
  • Community Outreach: Coordinate with parolees' employers, counselors, and family members to provide support and evaluate progress
  • Treatment Planning: Develop and update supervision plans based on individual needs
  • Case Guidance: Help parolees and probationers address personal challenges that affect their transition
  • Agency Referrals: Refer individuals to programs that assist with employment, substance use, mental health, and other needs
  • Court Participation: Provide testimony and information during court proceedings related to supervision and compliance

Qualifications

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of paraprofessional experience which includes two years of paraprofessional social services, human services, corrections, or law enforcement experience; or
