About the Role
Performs tasks in the care, maintenance, and supervision of facilities including ball field care, set-up and break-down for recreation programs and events, and facility cleaning. Work is carried out under the primary supervision of the Grounds Foreman and reviewed through observation, conversation, and evaluation of results achieved.
Responsibilities
- Performs assigned tasks in ball field maintenance and facility care on City-owned grounds or other related areas, including unskilled or semi-skilled labor.
- Uses hand tools such as rakes, shovels, hoes, and other related equipment to pick up tree limbs, shrub trimmings, and trash.
- Operates gasoline-powered equipment including hedge trimmers, weed eaters, edgers, push mowers, and chain saws.
- Operates power-driven riding lawn mowers, tractors, sand/clay units, pickup trucks, trailers, and related City vehicles.
- Assists with facility supervision, including turning lights on/off, opening facilities, and clearing debris.
- Prepares, sets up, and breaks down recreation equipment and facilities.
- Performs heavy manual labor, including standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, digging, and sitting (riding equipment) for extended periods.
- Operates small equipment and landscape machinery, with constant exposure to loud noises.
- Occasionally writes, details, and lifts 50 lbs. or more.
- Works outside in extreme weather conditions, including evenings and weekends.
- Performs any other duties or tasks that may be assigned.
Requirements
- One or more years of experience in landscaping or ball field maintenance.
- Experience with specialized equipment for high-maintenance athletic fields is a plus.
- Must possess a valid State of Florida driver’s license.
- Willingness to work weekends and evenings as assigned.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to use small equipment, hand tools, and gasoline-powered lawn maintenance and ball field equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under unfavorable weather conditions.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Riding sand/clay units, lawnmowers, and large equipment such as tractors.
- Use of gasoline-powered equipment including hedge trimmers, weed eaters, edgers, push mowers, and chain saws.
- Use of hand tools such as rakes, shovels, hoes, and related landscape equipment.
- High frequency of standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, digging, and sitting (riding equipment).
- Occasional lifting of 50 lbs. or more.
