About the role
The Parks Regional Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the Northeast Region of Vermont State Parks. Key responsibilities include:
- General oversight and management of state parks
- Developing and implementing policies related to state parks
- Making significant capital improvement decisions for projects exceeding $1 million in budget and scope
- Directly supervising 3 staff persons including two Regional Operations Managers and one Regional Facilities Manager
- Indirectly supervising and supporting 6 other full-time regional positions and approximately 100 seasonal staff
- Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders on issues related to park properties
- Overseeing visitor relations and customer service in the region
- Investigating and responding to visitor disputes and complaints as necessary
Responsibilities
The Parks Regional Manager must possess a valid driver's license and have access to some means of private transportation. Some evening or overtime work may be required. Complaints from potential and actual park clients may occur which require appropriate communication skills such as sensitivity and diplomacy in achieving resolution.
Requirements
Minimum qualifications include:
- A bachelor's degree AND four (4) years or more of experience in management, administration, planning, maintenance administration or coordination, including one (1) year of supervisory experience
- Or
- A two-year associate's degree AND six (6) years or more of experience in management, administration, planning, maintenance administration or coordination, including one (1) year of supervisory experience
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and objectives of recreation and parks planning, development, management and administration
- Knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, and materials used in the maintenance and operation of a State Park
- Knowledge of natural resource conservation principles and practices
- Knowledge of supervisory and management principles, methods and techniques
- Working knowledge of landscaping methods and techniques
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Ability to plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of subordinates
- Skill in working with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Skill in working in team settings
