PARKS Maintenance Worker - Civic Center

This position is located in the Cobb County PARKS Department at the Civic Center (548 South Marietta Pkwy, SE, Marietta, GA 30060).

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of landscaping duties:
  • Mows grass
  • Plants flowers and shrubs
  • Weed eats around signs and fence lines
  • Edges curb lines
  • Clears leaves, tree limbs, and other debris from park areas
  • Spreads and hauls ground cover, dirt, or mulch
  • Applies herbicides and pesticides
  • Prunes trees and shrubs
  • Weeds flower beds
  • Aerates and spreads grass seed
  • Services irrigation systems
  • Grooms and lines ball fields
  • Removes snow and ice
• Performs maintenance and construction tasks for various parks and facilities:
  • Resurfaces and renovates playgrounds, fields, and courts
  • Paints buildings, equipment, and parking lots
  • Repairs and assembles fences and playground equipment
  • Builds sets, staging, shelves, and other items
  • Performs light plumbing, electrical, masonry, and carpentry repairs
• Performs general custodial duties at various parks and facilities:
  • Cleans parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and other areas
  • Vacuums carpets
  • Hoses decks
  • Scrubs and waxes floors
  • Dusts and washes windows
  • Empties trash
  • Sets up and tears down staging, chairs, tables, bleachers, etc. for meetings, classes, tournaments, and events
• Maintains inventory of equipment, parts, and supplies:
  • Gathers supplies and equipment to complete work assignments
  • Transports supplies to and from work site
  • Initiates orders for materials and equipment needed
  • Maintains related documentation
• Operates or uses a County vehicle and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete work assignments, including:
  • Lawn mower
  • Weedeater
  • Blowers
  • Tillers
  • Bobcat
  • Tractor
  • Dump truck
  • Wheelbarrow
  • Jack hammer
  • Sledge hammer
  • Saws
  • Chippers
  • Backhoes
  • Other power or motorized equipment
• Performs general maintenance tasks to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition:
  • Inspects equipment
  • Checks and replaces fluid levels
  • Greases equipment
  • Washes/cleans equipment
  • Cleans shop and work areas
  • Monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety
  • Reports faulty equipment
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required
• One year of experience in parks maintenance, landscaping, or related field
• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License

Physical Abilities

• Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds)
