Under close supervision, performs routine and regular cleaning, lawn care maintenance, and/or landscaping duties within County Parks’ open areas, buildings, grounds, parks facilities, campsites, ballparks, and recreation sites.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a variety of lawn care and landscaping equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, tree trimmers, and edgers.
  • Loads, hauls, and unloads equipment, materials, and supplies safely and efficiently; performs vehicle and equipment checks; conducts preventive maintenance on lawn care equipment.
  • Assists in snow removal and ice control as needed.
  • Mows grass; weeds plant beds; prunes trees; trims and edges landscaping.
  • Cleans restrooms, facilities, grounds, pavilions, campsites, ballparks, and other recreation facilities.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs of recreation facilities and grounds.
  • Ensures workplace safety; performs preventive maintenance and general upkeep of lawn care and landscaping equipment.
  • Operates various hand and power tools related to landscape maintenance.
  • Conducts support and clean-up activities, including restroom cleaning, sweeping, and handling of Parks and Recreation materials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Regular visits to County facilities and work sites.
  • Completion of Hamilton County Defensive Driving course and/or Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) prior to operating a County-owned vehicle.

Skills

  • Knowledge of equipment manuals, work order systems, and documentation processes for park and recreational equipment maintenance.
  • Familiarity with Hamilton County policies and procedures, as well as relevant Federal, State, and County codes and regulations for building maintenance and workplace safety.
  • Understanding of County geography, parks, and recreational facilities.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply Federal, State, and County rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools, landscaping and construction equipment, and interpreting equipment manuals and engineering specifications.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with the public, department staff, other County departments, and contractors.
  • Experience in landscaping and plant care.

Physical Requirements

  • Moderate physical effort involving considerable walking and standing, with intermittent sitting and driving.
  • Frequent standing, talking, and hearing; walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Regularly lifts and carries up to 25 pounds; occasionally lifts and carries up to 100 pounds.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Works outdoors in various weather conditions, including rain, cold, heat, and high humidity.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock.
  • May work in high or precarious places; noise levels are usually loud.

This position is designated as "safety sensitive" under 49 CFR Part 40 and is subject to drug and alcohol testing, including post-offer pre-employment, reasonable cause, post-accident, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing.
