About the role

The St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation is hiring motivated individuals to join their team. Positions are available at specific parks and recreational facilities throughout St. Louis County.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans and performs maintenance of restrooms, shelters, picnic sites, athletic fields, trails, amphitheater, and other facilities.
  • Mows and trims grounds.
  • Performs trash removal and pick-up.
  • Sets-up and breaks-down equipment and materials for programs and events.
  • Auxiliary tasks such as pavement repairs and construction, construction-related activities, and assisting with various construction tasks.
  • Breaks-down and cleans up after programs and events.
  • Auxiliary tasks such as assisting with various construction tasks.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • Experience in similar roles.
  • Answers to supplemental questions.
  • Results of employment references investigated.

Skills

  • Ability to perform physical labor including heavy lifting and manual labor.
  • Familiarity with various types of equipment.
  • Team player skills.

Benefits

Starting salaries are contingent upon qualifications and budgetary considerations. Benefits include paid medical insurance, 20 days of PTO the first year, increasing with seniority, and 11-12 paid holidays. Employees hired for full-time employment will participate in the St. Louis County retirement plan, with a defined benefit plan and vesting after 7 years. Other benefits include: paid life insurance, a credit union, 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, pre-tax premium pay plan, dependent care and medical expense reimbursement plans, and short and long-term disability insurance. As of January 1, 2023, up to 480 hours of paid parental leave is available for eligible employees welcoming new children, either by birth or adoption. Employees can also take up to 80 hours of leave for prenatal care and up to 80 hours for care of the child within the first year.

Pay

  • Laborer On Call: Starting salary of $15.19 per hour, no benefits.
  • Maintenance Worker I: Starting salary of $15.86 per hour, competitive benefits package and a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) policy.

Schedule

  • Laborer On Call: Typically works 40 hours per week (including evenings and weekends) from September through March for recreation facilities, and 40 hours per week (including some weekends) from April through October for parks.
  • Maintenance Worker I: Full-time position with benefits.
