Essential Functions/ Job Competencies/ Physical Requirements
- Coordinates, assigns, monitors, and participates in building and grounds maintenance activities.
- Instructs and trains employees on proper methods and procedures.
- Reviews work in progress and checks for compliance with standards upon completion.
- Receives work orders from the supervisor.
- Picks up trash from different areas and arranges for its transportation to the City landfill.
- Cuts grass when needed.
- Ensures all equipment checked out of the warehouse is returned at the end of the day.
- Picks up equipment needed for special projects from the compound.
- Checks sites for vandalism and broken equipment.
- Prepares and maintains accurate reports regarding status of repairs and maintenance performed by the crew.
- Aids in maintaining good communication between staff, visitors, and other business contacts.
- Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance equipment.

Work Environment/Conditions and Physical Demands
- Physical Effort Requirements: Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
- Work Environment Locations: Office or similar indoor environment, sometimes; confined space, often; outdoor environment, street environment (near moving traffic), construction site, vehicles, warehouse environment.
- Exposures: Communicable diseases, individuals with known violent backgrounds, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals or substances, extreme cold (below 32 degrees), extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts, loud noises (85+ decibels such as heavy trucks, jack hammers, construction).
- Travel: International travel, sometimes; regional travel, national travel, often; local travel.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education and Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D. OR at least two (2) years of City of Laredo full-time employment experience. At least three (3) years of progressively responsible work experience performing grounds and facility maintenance work.
- Licenses and Certifications: Valid Texas Driver License.
