Parks Aide - Neighborhood Parks

Broward County is seeking qualified candidates for Parks Aide positions within the Neighborhood Parks group. Two openings are available: one at Delevoe Park and one at Roosevelt Gardens Park. Candidates may be assigned to either location based on operational needs.

About the Role

Performs a variety of park maintenance and program implementation activities at assigned facilities. Assists skilled trades staff based on area of assignment. Works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, determining how or when to complete tasks.

Responsibilities

• Interacts with the public and other County employees to provide directions, explain work activities/procedures, identify service needs, or resolve day-to-day operational issues.
• Collects fees and operates a cash register or point-of-sale software based on area of assignment.
• Maintains landscape and construction-related equipment to ensure safe operation, extend equipment life, minimize downtime, and reduce repair/replacement costs.
• Inspects park facilities, including play areas, buildings, and parking areas, to ensure a safe environment for employees and the public; performs facility maintenance to maintain cleanliness and safety.
• Sets up and takes down temporary facilities and traffic control devices for meetings, special activities, and events to ensure safety and efficient traffic flow.
• Prepares log sheets to document work activities, track equipment usage, and provide summary information to management.
• Picks up and delivers supplies, materials, or mail to ensure availability where and when needed.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements

• Six months of experience in general grounds and facility maintenance, customer service, recreational activities, and/or point-of-sale systems.
• Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver’s License based on area of assignment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, late afternoons/evenings, non-school days (e.g., Winter/Spring Break, teacher planning days), and holidays.

Preferences

• Prior experience working in a recreational setting.

Work Environment

Physical Demands: Performs light to medium work involving walking or standing most of the time. Requires exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force regularly or demonstrating skill, adeptness, and speed in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable Hazards: Routine and frequent exposure to traffic, moving machinery, and toxic/caustic chemicals.
