Parkinsons Connection Fitness Instructor

PRN (As Needed) position supporting Parkinson’s program members in reaching fitness goals through safe, effective, and motivating fitness programs in group classes, recreational opportunities, and/or personal training. Aligns with the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Parkinson’s Connection team to support program goals.
  • Provide initial orientation for new participants in the program.
  • Collect health history forms, release forms, and physician consent forms from members.
  • Develop positive rapport with team members to support engagement in fitness programming.
  • Lead senior-appropriate fitness classes (floor or chair), adapting for varying abilities and mobility levels while demonstrating proper exercise techniques and monitoring participant safety.
  • Ensure the exercise area and equipment are safe and clean.
  • Fully utilize the Fliip app and other fitness apps to support Parkinson’s fitness programming.
  • Train all participants in the proper use of the facility’s exercise equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Maintain required fitness certifications.
  • Handle workplace stress and maintain positive interactions with colleagues and customers.
  • Maintain acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

The responsibilities described above are primary; additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Requirements

  • Current nationally recognized certification in the specialty fitness discipline.
  • Group fitness certification through a nationally recognized organization (e.g., ACE, AFAA, ACSM) or equivalent preferred.
  • Certified Personal Trainer: ACE CPT, NASM CPT, ACSM CPT, or NSCA Certified Personal Trainer or equivalent required.
  • Either Rock Steady Boxing or PWR! Moves certification required upon hire; must obtain the other certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
  • Current valid driver’s license with proof of insurance required.

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft operating systems, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, proportions, and calculations involving discounts, interest, and commissions.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and handle abstract and concrete variables.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years’ experience in Fitness, Therapy, or a related field required.
  • 1+ years’ experience directing exercise programs required.
  • Experience directing exercise programs for senior adults preferred.

Special Working Conditions

  • Subject to inside environmental conditions with exposure to temperature changes.
  • Exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Required to work around individuals with challenged mental capacities.
  • May need to drive between locations for services provided.
  • May be called upon to assist other departments in emergency situations.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Medium Work – Exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly.
  • Visual acuity (with or without correction) to assess accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work.
  • Physical movements: stooping, kneeling, climbing stairs/ramps, crouching, reaching, pushing, lifting, walking long distances, and moving between work sites.
  • Hand and finger dexterity: picking, pinching, typing, grasping, and feeling attributes of objects (size, shape, temperature, texture).
  • Communication: speaking clearly and accurately, hearing at normal speaking levels, and receiving detailed information through oral communication.
