Position Overview
KU Transportation Services manages and enforces parking regulations on the University campus. The role includes monitoring parking areas, issuing citations, assisting community members and visitors, and ensuring traffic flow.
Job Description
60% - Parking Enforcement/Field Operations:
- Patrol university parking lots and structures to enforce parking regulations.
- Issue citations for parking violations and record relevant information.
- Afford assistance to university community members with parking-related inquiries and concerns.
- Maintain effective communication with dispatch using a two-way radio.
- Relieve Information Booth staff for breaks and possibly cover booth duties if short-staffed.
- Train new student employee officers.
- Utilize parking management software and technology for citation issuance, permit management, and record-keeping.
- Afford assistance in the implementation and maintenance of parking-related technology solutions.
20% - Events:
- Prepare for and work all special events, including football games, basketball games, commencement ceremonies, and dorm move-ins.
- Install temporary signage and barricades as directed to facilitate event coordination.
- Collaborate with campus security, facilities management, and other relevant departments to address parking-related issues.
15% - Asset Protection and Maintenance Support:
- Report all instances of stolen or damaged signage to the supervisor and ensure prompt replacement.
- Maintain handheld ticket writers, printers, and radios to prevent damage.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in departmental vehicles; promptly report damage or mechanical issues.
- Afford assistance with maintenance and repair of gate and pay-on-foot equipment as needed.
- Collect funds from pay-on-foot machines upon request.
5% - Additional Duties:
- Undertake any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Position Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
Must report to work in declared periods of inclement and extreme weather conditions to help with snow removal.
Must work some nights, holidays, and weekends with special events.
Required Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One (1) year of experience in basic computer skills with a demonstrated knowledge of software programs, as evidenced in application materials.
- A valid driver's license by the time of hire and maintain that license throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in an environment requiring limited direct supervision as evidenced by application materials.
- Proven excellent public relations skills, showcasing frequent interaction with both internal and external customers as seen from work experience.
- Experience using a two-way radio as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience or familiarity with the KU Campus and Lawrence area as evidenced by application materials.
- Experience with multitasking and collaborative work with others as evidenced by application materials.
