Responsibilities

  • Perform legal research and draft legal memoranda.
  • Prepare, review, and/or sign legal collection and enforcement documents.
  • Research and prepare executions for collateral parking judgment debt.
  • Aid the public with complex legal problems, resulting from the Sheriff Boot Program.
  • Meet with motorists in DOF business centers as needed to explain decisions and legal requirements, relating to parking debt.
  • Represent DOF during administrative hearings and other forums.
  • May be required to appear in administrative hearings throughout the five boroughs.
  • Serve as "Of Counsel" to the Special Assistant Corporation Counsel.
  • Research and draft legal responses to claims or actions filed against the agency.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
  • Experience with administrative proceedings, parking violations and booting/towing is a plus.
  • Strong technical skills, such as experience with DOF’s STARS and NYCSERV computer systems.
  • Excellent legal research, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully balance multiple assignments, with flexibility for changes in priority and work to be handled.

Qualifications

  • Must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
  • To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
  • To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.

Skills

Pay

$92,525.00 – $106,404.00
