General Summary
Under the supervision of the City Manager and/or designee. Employees in this classification will be responsible for customer service and general operations of Benton Harbor City Parking Lot Operations. Candidates must have scheduling flexibility and be willing to work weekends and/or holidays. This is a seasonal position with employment occurring May 1st – Oct. 30th.
Essential Job Functions
- Patroling and Monitoring: Regularly patrol streets and parking areas to identify vehicles violating parking regulations.
- Attendance: Being reliable, available, present, and ready to work on time when assigned is one of most essential elements of this position.
- Enforcing Regulations: Ensure compliance with parking laws, ordinances, and regulations.
- Issuing Citations: Issue parking tickets or citations for violations such as, dog violations in parks, parking on grass where not allowed, unauthorized golf-cart type vehicles, expired meters, overstaying time limits, or parking in restricted areas.
- Reporting Violations: Report parking violations, damaged or abandoned vehicles, and other incidents to appropriate authorities.
- Public Interaction: Interact with the public to answer questions, address concerns, and provide information regarding parking regulations.
- Maintaining Records: Keep accurate records of parking violations, citations issued, and other relevant information.
- Collaborating with Other Agencies: Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies, towing companies, and other relevant departments.
- Using Technology: Utilize handheld computers, radios, and other technology to aid in parking enforcement duties.
- Special Event Management: Manage parking during special events, concerts, or festivals.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- General knowledge of park rules
- Ability to type, keyboard, read and write legibly
- Must be able to communicate and comprehend the English language
- Basic math skills
- Friendly and helpful attitude
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work with people of all backgrounds
- Strong communication skills, customer service orientation
- Must retain a valid driver’s license
